Sex, Romance & Nudity
some
Adults kiss, make out, undress, and lie in bed together. Nudity is implied but no sensitive parts are shown. A bachelorette party features many decorations and favors shaped like penises, including a blow-up doll with an erect penis and a male stripper who dances suggestively. One character massages another's back with a penis-shaped vibrator. Some bridal wear is low in the bust and/or has very short skirts.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking
some
Lots of glamorized drinking of wine and cocktails by adults at special events, in a bar, and at home alone, especially during daylight hours. A bachelorette party shows drunken behavior; consequences are kneeling in front of a toilet with vomiting sounds and hangover symptoms the next morning. An adult holds an unlit cigarette.

Positive Messages
some
Don't be afraid to take a leap of faith, try something new, and see where it takes you. Your heart never gets full; it can always expand and make room for love in your life.
-
Positive Role Models
some
Diane and Kate model strong mother-daughter bonds as well as strong friendship bonds. Diane taught her daughter to be strong and independent and to believe she can handle anything on her own if she has to. Bruce and Andrew model patience and understanding, especially with Kate, who's slow to accept change.
-
Diverse Representations
a little
All main characters involved in the two romances are White. But every friend group, background crowd, or group of minor characters has diverse skin tones, ages, and body sizes. A male friend wears lipstick and dresses in feminine clothes. There are a couple of weddings of same-sex couples.

What's the Story?
In DAUGHTER OF THE BRIDE, Kate (Halston Sage) and her mother, Diane (Marcia Gay Harden), have been best friends since Kate's father walked out of their lives when Kate was very young. The two count on each other for everything, and Kate has always admired the way her mom taught her to be a strong, independent woman capable of doing anything she sets her mind to. That is, until Diane meets Bruce (Aidan Quinn), and faster than Kate would like, Diane and Bruce announce their engagement. Kate's fierce resistance to change suddenly moves to the forefront, threatening to tear them apart once and for all.

Kids say (1):
This otherwise run-of-the-mill romantic comedy gets a little lift from the refreshing perspective of seeing the story through the strong mother-daughter relationship at its heart. Daughter of the Bride's outcome is never in doubt, and it sags a bit in the middle. But the likable cast and sometimes funny dialogue make it a nice mother-daughter movie night choice for romcom fans. There's not a lot of concerning content, but the all-adult cast may be more relatable and interesting to high schoolers and up.
