TORI, HOW ARE THINGS LOOKING NOW? UNFORTUNATELY, DEB AND THEY’RE NOT LOOKING TOO GOOD. I SPOKE WITH A BUNCH OF THESE BUSINESS OWNERS, AND I WANT TO SHOW YOU YOU CAN SEE KIND OF JUST HOW DEEP THIS WATER GOES AS I’M WALKING THIS. THESE GUYS HERE ARE PIPES. THEY HAVE THAT BOARD UP. BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD ABOUT THREE FEET OF WATER INSIDE THEIR STORE EARLIER THIS MORNING. IF WE JUST TAKE IT DOWN DOCK STREET HERE A LITTLE BIT, YOU CAN JUST SEE THAT IT IS STILL UNDERWATER AT THIS POINT. BUT SOMETHING WE HAVE BEEN NOTICING IS THAT THERE’S JUST A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT AND ABOUT. SOME PEOPLE EVEN TRYING TO DRIVE THROUGH THESE FLOOD WATERS HERE ON DOCK STREET. BUT THE ISSUE WITH THAT, I’M TOLD BY THE BUSINESS OWNERS, IS THAT THAT WATER THEN KIND OF PUSHES WAVES AND MAKES THEM HAVE MORE WATER INTO THEIR BUSINESS. BUT I WANT TO SHOW YOU WHAT WE SAW A LITTLE BIT EARLIER HERE IN ANNAPOLIS. SO IF YOU CAN SEE THERE, THAT’S THE VIDEO THAT WE HAVE FROM EARLIER THIS MORNING WHEN THAT THAT HIGH TIDE FIRST CAME IN AND THEY HAD TO SHUT DOWN A LOT OF THE CITY STREETS. NOW MOST OF THOSE STREETS ARE BACK OPEN LIKE RANDALL. COMPROMISE STILL DOES HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF FLOODING, BUT MAINLY DOCK STREET HERE WHERE WE’RE AT IS THE BIG ONE THAT HAS THE MOST. SO IF WE BRING OR EXCUSE ME, WE DID TALK WITH THOSE BUSINESS OWNERS AND HERE’S WHAT ONE HAD TO SAY. I COMPARE IT JANUARY, JANUARY. IT WAS VERY TERRIBLE. SO IT’S GETTING BETTER. BETTER THAN JANUARY. SO I’M OKAY. SO YESTERDAY I PREPARED YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING. YOU KNOW PUT ON SOUVENIR AND THEY PUT ON. YEAH. OP. AND WE GOT YOU BACK HERE LIVE JUST TO SHOW YOU A VEHICLE. DID TRY TO DRIVE THROUGH HERE ON DOCK STREET AND AND ENDED UP UP ON THAT CURB OVER THERE. SO THEY DID GET A LITTLE STUCK. THAT’S NOT THE FIRST VEHICLE I SAW EITHER THAT TRIED TO DRIVE THROUGH THESE HIGH WATERS HERE ON DOCK. BUT AS YOU HEARD FROM BUSINESS OWNER, THEY’RE YOUNG. THEY DO TELL ME THEY ARE WORRIED. AS FOR THAT HIGH TIDE COMING TONIGHT, SO WE’LL BE SURE TO KEEP YOU POSTED OUT HERE IN ANNAPOLIS. I’M TORI YORGEY, WBAL-TV 11 NEWS. TORI. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT PERSPECTIVE OVER THERE. ALL RIGHT. IN FELLS POINT, A NUMBER OF STREETS ARE ALSO CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING AND SOME NEIGHBORS DECIDED TO EMBRACE THE RAIN BY USING SOME UNIQUE WAYS TO GET AROUND. 11 NEWS REPORTER DAVID COLLINS JOINS US LIVE FROM FAME STREET, WHERE THE WATER IS STILL PRETTY HIGH. RIGHT? DAVID? YES, IT IS. AND THIS BUSY STREET JUST REOPENED NOW. THE WATER CAME UP PRETTY FAR, AS YOU CAN TELL, BY ALL THIS DEBRIS. BUT BEFORE IT RECEDED SOMEWHAT, WE SAW PEOPLE SWIMMING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND PADDLEBOARDING. IT’S LIKE 50% FUN AND 50% TERRIFYING. RON HOWARD IS THE NEW UBER SERVICE IN FELLS POINT. USING A PADDLE BOARD HE KEEPS IN HIS CAR, HE JUST FERRIED A COWORKER TO HER VEHICLE. SO IT’S ABOUT THREE FEET DEEP RIGHT OUT HERE. IT’S NOT THE DEEPEST WE’VE SEEN. AND TAKE A LOOK AT THESE GUYS. THEY ACTUALLY TOOK A DIP IN THE MIDDLE OF THAMES STREET. WHILE FUNNY TO SOME, NOT EVERYBODY THINKS THAT’S A GOOD IDEA. TAYLOR MORRIS AND HER SON CAME DOWN FROM CANTON TO CHECK OUT FELLS POINT FLOODING. LISTEN TO WHAT COMES OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES. IS IT CLEAN OR DIRTY? DIRTY, DIRTY. AND DO YOU WANT TO GO SWIMMING IN THERE? NO. SMALL WHITE CAPS SLAPPED AGAINST FELLS POINT. PIERS. PERIODIC DOWNPOURS DIDN’T STOP RUNNERS, BUT SOME RESTAURANT OWNERS ARE FINDING THE FLOODING IS IMPACTING BUSINESS. WHERE TO PARK OR YOU KNOW, IF IT’S SAFE FOR THEM TO COME DOWN HERE, THINGS LIKE THAT, JUST A LITTLE BIT. BUT I STILL GOT LIKE A CALL FROM PEOPLE TO ASK IF THEY OKAY TO COME. IF WE OPEN. BUSINESS IS BOOMING FOR CITY TOW TRUCK DRIVERS. THEY CONSIDER MOVING VEHICLES OUT OF HARM’S WAY. A PUBLIC SERVICE WE STAY PRODUCTIVE. TRUCKS ARE RUNNING ALL DAY FROM START TO FINISH, SIX IN THE MORNING UNTIL STATE HIGHWAY OFFICIALS CALL THE HEAVY RAIN AND ITS CONSEQUENCES. THE NEW SNOW CREWS ARE OUT IN FORCE, JUST LIKE IN A SNOWSTORM. ONLY THEIR JOB DUTIES ARE IN SYNC WITH SUMMERTIME WEATHER. TAKING CARE OF ANY KIND OF FALLEN TREE LIMBS, ANY KIND OF GUARDRAIL DAMAGE, ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF ON THE HIGHWAY. PUTTING UP HIGH WATER SIGNS DO NOT CROSS. SOME OF OUR TRUCKS WILL LITERALLY BLOCK A ROAD. IF IT’S A LOT OF WATER. THE CITY OFFERED FREE PARKING AT SOME OF ITS GARAGES FOR A LIST AND THE LATEST ON ROAD CLOSURES STATEWIDE BY SHAH, VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT WBAL, TV DOT COM, REPORTING LIVE FROM FELLS POINT, DAVID COLLINS, WBAL-TV 11 NEWS. ALL RIGHT, DAVID THANK YOU. WELL, EASTERN BALTIMORE COUNTY ALSO EXPERIENCED FLOODING TODAY. IT ALSO HAPPENED ALONG THE SHORELINE. 11 NEWS REPORTER BARRY SIMMS IS LIVE IN BOWLEYS QUARTERS WITH THE LATEST THERE. BARRY. WELL, THE FLOODWATER HAS RECEDED IN THIS AREA, BUT THE SUSQUEHANNA AVENUE STILL REMAINS CLOSED. EARLIER TODAY, SOME BOWLEYS QUARTERS RESIDENTS WERE STUCK ON THE ROADWAY FOR HOURS. THE EMERGENCY CALLS DID NOT STOP AS BOWLEYS QUARTERS NEIGHBORS BRACED FOR AND ENDURED THE WIND AND HEAVY RAIN. NEIGHBORHOOD COMES TOGETHER. REMNANTS OF DEBBY AND OF COURSE, THE FLOODING COMING OFF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY. IF YOU’RE FROM AROUND HERE, NOTHING NEW FOR SAFETY REASONS, BALTIMORE COUNTY POLICE STOPPED TRAFFIC ON BOWLEYS QUARTERS ROAD AND SUSQUEHANNA AVENUE. THIS AREA RIGHT HERE GETS FLOODED OUT EVERY TIME, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, YOU KNOW, IT’S THIS IS PRETTY BAD. SO IT’S NOT ISABEL BAD, BUT IT’S BAD. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IN BY FOOT, IN KNEE DEEP WATER, OR WITH THE HELP OF PEOPLE LIKE ROBERT WRIGHT, HE SPENT FRIDAY CHECKING ON NEIGHBORS AND OFFERING RIDES. BUT EVEN HE RAN INTO PROBLEMS AT TIMES. I COME UP HERE AND THE WHOLE FRONT END OF MY FOUR WHEELER CUT OFF THE GROUND AND IT WAS LIKE A BOAT. BUT LUCKILY I GOT MADE IT THROUGH. I WAS WORRIED THAT I WASN’T GOING TO MAKE IT THROUGH, BUT I DID. BUT THAT’S HOW DEEP IT IS. THIS VIDEO FROM SKY TEAM 11 SHOWS THE HIGH WATER AND FLOODING ALONG BAY DRIVE AND OTHER PLACES. THIS PICTURE KEVIN LYNCH SENT TO 11 NEWS SHOWS HIS DESTROYED PIER COUNTY EXECUTIVE JOHNNY OLSZEWSKI HOPPED ON BOWLEYS QUARTERS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT’S BIG WATER RESCUE TRUCK FOR A TOUR OF THE DAMAGE. HE STOPPED BY SEVERAL SHORELINE COMMUNITIES. WE THINK WE’RE MOVING IN A POSITIVE DIRECTION AND THAT WE’RE THROUGH THE WORST OF THIS, BUT OBVIOUSLY WE WANT TO MAKE SURE SAFETY OF OUR RESIDENTS IS OUR TOP PRIORITY HERE. NOW, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT BALTIMORE COUNTY OFFICIALS ARE STILL CONCERNED ABOUT, THAT’S THE HIGH TIDE TONIGHT, AS MENTIONED EARLIER ABOUT THE HIGH TIDE. AND THEY’RE WORRIED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE FLOODING TONIGHT. REPORTING LIVE FROM BOWLEYS
